WELCOME TO THE BOOK MARKETING & PUBLICITY SHOW!
My name is Sam Missingham, founder of The Empowered Author, a community for authors. I have wanted to launch an event focused on book marketing for a long time, so I am delighted to announce The Book Marketing & Publicity Show. I have been busy talking to authors and experts to make sure every session will give you practical advice and the confidence to market yourself and your books effectively.
I know that this is an area that some of you don’t enjoy or perhaps find completely bewildering, and I had that in mind when I was programming the show. I have picked experts, authors and influencers who will explain what to do, where to focus your time and what actually works.
The authors who have kindly agreed to be interviewed by me have all said that they will be candid about how they do their marketing, what works for them and what they have learned through their mistakes and successes. They are all authors that I have long-admired for their ability to engage with their readers, use social media platforms and marketing tools creatively and effectively.
The workshops will guide you step-by-step through different book marketing tactics, and importantly explain if this is something that could work for you. And the other area of the show - meet the booksellers, librarians and bloggers will give you invaluable insight into how to work with these influencers.
I am a great believer that the more knowledge you have, the more confidence you will have in your own abilities. Please join me on the 3rd and 5th of November, and watch this space for more speakers and sessions.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The Book Marketing and Publicity Show is aimed at adult fiction authors who want to improve their knowledge and confidence.
There is plenty for self and traditionally published authors. Half of the authors I am interviewing are either currently self publishing or started that route and then switched to trad.
If you are just starting out on your writing career or you are much further down the line, the show will give you practical skills, an understanding of the tools you can use, where you should spend your money and much more.

I GET IT, YOU'D RATHER BE WRITING
My recent poll of authors confirmed what I have heard from authors over the years - a lot of you either actively hate marketing or consider it a necessary evil.
I don't need to tell you the reality of life as an author, and that more and more is expected of you. I am also not going to tell you that by attending The Book Marketing & Publicity Show you'll suddenly fall in love with marketing, but I can promise that you will gain confidence in your abilities, understand where you should be putting your energies and pick up tips, tactics and ideas that you can implement immediately.
